Danniella Westbrook to have £500k facial reconstruction surgery on the NHS

Former actress Danniella Westbrook is set to receive £500k of facial surgery on the NHS after searching for doctors to help her rebuild her collapsed nose and damaged cheekbones. The 48-year-old said she was getting the reconstructive surgery to "survive" after ending up in intensive care over Christmas, the Mirror reports.

"Plastic surgeons wanted £500,000 to change my face, so I thought I was never going to get it done. It was only because I went into intensive care before Christmas," she told The Sun.

"I couldn't breathe because I had a cold. There was a build up of fluid and after I fell asleep I couldn't wake up properly and ended up in ICU."

"That's why I'm doing this," Westbrook continued. "I need this surgery to survive. It's not for vanity, this is about my health. It hampers my lifestyle on a day to day basis."

The former Eastenders actress said that she is receiving the "best care in the country" after being referred to Aintree Hospital in Liverpool for treatment. She is reportedly having a section of her rib inserted into her face as part of the complex reconstructive surgery.

Danniella damaged her nasal septum as a result of prolonged drug and alcohol abuse. She has previously said that some bones in her face have broken down due to osteoporosis.
