Danjuma's extra work after Conte snub, injury boost - 4 things spotted in Tottenham training

Porro's attacking qualities

Pedro Porro has left Tottenham fans wanting so much more after a very bright showing in last Saturday's 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest. Coming to the attention of Spurs following his attacking displays and regular goal involvements for Sporting CP, the Spaniard registered his first assist for the club with a perfect cross that Harry Kane converted.

Now on three goals and 12 assists over the course of the 2022/23 campaign, Porro's numbers could continue to grow providing that Antonio Conte gives him adequate playing time. In Tuesday's training session at Hotspur Way, the January signing also demonstrated his ability to find the net with three fine strikes.

Uploading some training footage to his Instagram stories, Porro curled a left-footed effort into the top corner beyond academy goalkeeper Aaron Maguire before finding the other side of the net with another curling effort with his right foot. His final goal saw him charge into the area and whip the ball across Maguire into the bottom corner as Pape Matar Sarr tried in vain to get a block on the shot.

Now with his first Tottenham assist to his name, Porro will have his fingers crossed that his first goal for the Lilywhites swiftly follows.

Emerson returns

Tottenham had to make do without Emerson Royal against Nottingham Forest as the Brazilian missed out on the matchday squad through injury. Speaking to the media on Friday afternoon, Conte opened up on the in-form right wing-back and explained why he was a doubt ahead of the game.

"Emerson didn't have a training session today because he had a kick. Today he wasn’t available for the training session," outlined Conte. "Tomorrow morning we will try him to see if he is available at least for the bench at least to help us."

Not fit enough to feature against the East Midlands club, it appears that Emerson will be back in contention for this weekend's Premier League clash vs Southampton as he was involved in training with the rest of the squad on Tuesday. The ex-Real Betis man could be seen on the ball sprinting past Kane and then also trying his best to get beyond Clement Lenglet.

Danjuma putting in the hours

All Arnaut Danjuma can do at the moment is try and wow Conte and his coaching staff in training and hope that it results in minutes on the pitch for the Lilywhites. Opting against joining Everton on loan in January in favour of sealing a move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the versatile attacker only has four Spurs appearances to his name so far, with his last coming in the 1-0 defeat at Sheffield United at the start of the month.

Even with Spurs cruising against Forest as they led 3-0 after 62 minutes, Conte elected against bringing Danjuma on and instead turned to Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Moura. It has been a nightmare loan spell for the Netherlands international so far and there are no signs at present that it will improve due to his lack of minutes.

Taking to his Instagram stories over the past few days, Danjuma has given fans an insight into the work he is putting in behind the scenes at Hotspur Way. One image showed him on his own in the gym at 7.46pm as he worked on his fitness, probably long after the rest of the squad had departed their Enfield training base for the day.

His dedication and commitment to his craft must be admired as he looks to make his case to Conte. Hopefully his hard work does start to pay off and game time comes his way in what remains of the season.

Youngsters train

As is usually the case in a Tottenham training session, a couple of the club's academy players joined in to boost the numbers. With Alfie Devine already a regular in first-team training after making a huge impression at Hotspur Way since his move from Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2020, the midfielder was joined by academy players Romaine Mundle and Matthew Craig.

Neither are strangers to the first-team setup as Mundle was on the bench last weekend against Nottingham Forest, while Craig was in the matchday squad for the final five games of the 2021/22 campaign with Spurs short on numbers. As mentioned above, academy goalkeeper Maguire was also involved in training at Hotspur Way.
