Danish man has surgery after 'too much breakdancing' causes cone shaped lump on head

A Danish breakdancer says he has had surgery after spinning on his head has caused a cone-shaped bulge to develop.

While the sport, which recently made its debut at the Olympic Games, has already been known to cause hair loss but has also been blamed for a more unusual phenomenon.

The unnamed man in his 30s told the British Medical Journal that practising up to 90 minutes per day, five times a week, for many years had caused a bulge in his head.

He has reportedly now been left satisfied with his new look after the surgery and is now happy to go about his day without wearing a hat for the first time in years.

Medics have raised concern at the effects of putting continued strain on the top of the head and it is known to result in a phenomenon called “headspin hole,” says the Guardian.

A hospital case report states: “His training regimen consisted of approximately five sessions a week, each lasting around one-and-a-half hours.

“During each session there was direct pressure applied to the vertex of the head [from spinning on it] for durations ranging from two minutes to seven minutes.”

The report added: “There had been a notable increase in its size and the onset of tenderness.

“The presence of the lesion and associated discomfort were aesthetically displeasing to the patient, but the protuberance had not hindered the patient from continuing his head-spinning activities.”

The man said he elected to have the surgery rather than to have steroid injections.

“The outcome is much better than it looked before, and I am glad I had it done,” he said. “I would choose to do it again if I had the choice.

“It is now possible for me to go out in public without a cap/hat, which is of course a very nice feeling. I have received a lot of positive feedback and people say it looks well done, that I have a nice scar, and that my overall appearance has improved significantly.”
