Danilo transfer interest from Rangers no shock to Feyenoord as Champions League ticket proves major factor

Transfer interest in Rangers target Danilo comes as no surprise to Feyenoord boss Arne Slot, who has heaped praise on the Brazilian striker.

Rangers have already seen one £3million bid for he 24-year-old booted out with the Eredivisie champions valuing the former Ajax youngster at £5m, which Gers will have to match to stand a chance of landing the frontman. Danilo bagged ten goals in 14 starts as Feyenoord finished top of the pile last season, but the majority of those came before November as he found himself on the bench more often during the second half of the campaign.

Slot won the Rinus Michels Award this week for being Manager of the Year in the Netherlands and was quizzed about interest in his players. He said: "I think every manager anywhere in the world knows that players who are doing very well are going to be of interest to other clubs.

"We have done very well and individual players have done well too. In football, you get players who say they are having a great time at the club and then leave anyway! Nothing can be ruled out in this game.

"We scored a lot of goals this season. For example, Danilo scored eight goals before the winter break and ten in total."

Meanwhile, Danilo revealed earlier this month how he was given a pep talk to keep his head up, after being dropped towards the end of the season, by his Brazilian teammate Igor Paixao.

He said: "Igor really helped me. This season I was a starter at first and scored goals, but Santiago Gimenez also did a great job and I was put back on the bench.

"I was downhearted, but Igor talked to me and told me to stay positive. And I did manage to get back into the team.

"The mentality within the club is so good. We try to do everything we can to improve. And we keep our feet on the ground. And next season we have Champions League football.

"For me, I would love to play in the Nou Camp against Barcelona. The club where Ronaldinho and Neymar played and where Lionel Messi did magic with the ball.

"So yes, I would love to play there with Feyenoord.''
