Danilo Rangers transfer bid booted out as Feyenoord name their price with two clubs 'miles apart' on magic number

Rangers have had a low ball offer for Feyenoord striker Danilo booted out as they ramp up their search for a new No.9.

Record Sport understands an initial undisclosed bid for the Brazilian was instantly booted into touch by the Dutch champions who have slapped a price tag of more than £5m on the 24-year-old. But, while sources in the Netherlands believe the two clubs remain ‘miles apart’, Danilo’s name remains high on a list of potential attacking targets drawn up by Ibrox boss Michael Beale.

Beale’s priority remains to splash out a significant proportion of his summer budget on Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers - who spent a season on loan at Feyenoord, becoming a fans favourite at De Kuip, before making the move to Italy’s Serie A last summer. But, while Rangers remain locked in negotiations over a price for the Nigerian international, those talks appear to have stalled over Cremonese’s £6.5m valuation.

That has left Beale assessing a list of alternatives with the club confident it has identified a number of strong options across the forward line. News of the failed bid for Danilo underlines Beale’s determination to get his business done early as he attempts to replace free agent Alfredo Morelos ahead of the new campaign.

Sao Paulo born Danilo would represent a younger alternative with the potential of better value for money in the longer term. But, while Dessers would provide Beale side with a physical, robust focal point to lead the line, the South American’s attributes would make him less likely to operate as an out-and-out target man.
