Danilo admission made as 'encouraging' Nottingham Forest verdict delivered

Head coach Steve Cooper admits Nottingham Forest will need to be patient with January signing Danilo as he adapts to English football and the Premier League.

The 21-year-old, who penned a six-and-a-half-year deal with the Reds earlier this week after joining from Palmeiras, is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in Brazil. Forest beat off competition from a number of big-name clubs to secure his signature, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Monaco all having been linked with the midfielder.

It was quite the coup for the club. And the youngster has made a positive early impression, catching the eye in training and settling in well in the dressing room - helped by fellow countrymen Renan Lodi and Gustavo Scarpa.

"He is really enjoying the weather, as you can imagine,” Cooper quipped. “He has a couple of friends here, with Renan and Gustavo.

"We will have to be patient. He has only just come through the door, he's a young boy and it is a big move for him, from Brazil to the Premier League.

"The first couple of days have been really encouraging. He has done some really good things in training. But more importantly to me, he looks relaxed and looks like he is going to settle in quickly - and until that happens you never see the best of a player.

"We are really going to enjoy working with him. We have already seen some signs of the level of player he is. His age means he has got loads of potential and growth, which is good, we like that.

"He's a good technician and a good passer of the ball. I'm sometimes a little bit reluctant to go too early on bigging somebody up, especially a young player, because I want them to earn the right.

"We just know that we've got a good young player to work with who has high potential. Hopefully we can get him involved as quickly as possible.

"There has to be some adaptation period for him, because that's a normal process - we learnt that in the summer with the new players who came in, that some take longer than others to really settle in, regardless of their age and stage of their development. But the quicker Danilo can feel relaxed, settled and understand how we want to play and his role, that's when we can really start talking about his strengths and areas to get better at.

"We're just at the point where we're really pleased he's here and are really enjoying getting to know him. We're really enjoying seeing him evolve in the group and contribute in training, as he has done this week. I'm sure that will grow going forward, both in training and in games.

"I hope he is a coup. The proof will be in the pudding, as with everybody else.”
