World No. 4 Daniil Medvedev has expressed his enthusiasm for participating in the Paris Olympics as a neutral athlete following the recent decision by the International Tennis Federation regarding players from Russia and Belarus. The governing body announced that athletes from these countries can compete in the Paris Games as neutrals without displaying flags, emblems, or anthems.

Due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, players from Russia and Belarus were initially banned from international competition. However, the International Olympic Committee issued recommendations last year for international sports federations to allow competitors from these countries to return to the sporting arena.

Medvedev, a Russian tennis player, shared his excitement about the upcoming Olympics, citing his positive experience at the Tokyo Games three years ago where he reached the quarterfinals in the singles competition. He expressed his eagerness to participate in both singles and doubles events at the Paris Olympics.

Reflecting on his time in Tokyo, Medvedev described it as an incredible experience and one of the most significant memories of his sporting career. He emphasized the importance of the Olympic Games, noting that despite the prominence of Grand Slam tournaments in tennis, the Olympics hold a special place for athletes.

Regarding the requirement to compete under a neutral flag, Medvedev affirmed his commitment to following the rules set forth by the governing bodies. He stated that he would adhere to the regulations and strive to showcase his best tennis while aiming for success at the Olympics.

It is worth noting that Russian and Belarusian players already participate in ATP and WTA tours as neutrals, and the upcoming Olympic tennis event is scheduled to commence on July 27.
