Danielle Hunter returns to practice field

Minnesota Vikings outside linebacker Danielle Hunter brought some good news for Monday’s training camp.

After holding out the first week of training camp due to disagreements with his contract, the Vikings and Hunter negotiated a new deal, allowing him to return to the practice field, according to ESPN’s Kevin Seifert.

The new contract was signed over the weekend and gives Hunter a significant pay raise for the 2023 season. Hunter’s new contract can see him earn upward of $20 million this season, marking an approximately $15 million raise on his previous deal.

The contract, however, does not guarantee Hutner staying in Minnesota long term. While the deal gave Hunter more money, it did not add extra years onto his contract, meaning Hunter is still set to hit free agency at the end of this season.

Regardless, it’s inherently good news that Hunter has returned to the practice field. Hunter has become one of the league’s best edge rushers, and his presence should help the Vikings’ defense tenfold.

Hunter finished last season with 10.5 sacks in 17 games and has 71 career sacks for the Vikings.
