Daniele De Rossi has been sacked by Roma after eight months as head coach and replaced by Ivan Juric on a contract until the end of this season.

De Rossi’s departure was announced after a winless start to the Serie A campaign. Juric has extensive Serie A coaching experience, including three years with Torino that ended with a mutual parting of ways at the end of last season.

De Rossi, who spent nearly two decades at Roma as a player, took over as head coach in January after José Mourinho was dismissed. He signed a contract extension until 2027 in June.

A club statement read: “The decision is made in the best interests of the team, to get back on the desired path as soon as possible at a time when the season is still in its early stages.

“A heartfelt thank you to Daniele, who will always be at home at the Giallorossi club, for the work he has done in recent months with passion and dedication.”

On Sunday De Rossi was sent off at the end of Roma’s 1-1 draw at Genoa, which left the club 16th in the table. The midfielder was adored by Roma fans and had an illustrious career with the club between 2001 and 2019.

Juric, a former Croatia international who spent much of his playing career in Italy, led Crotone into Serie A and has also managed Genoa and Verona.

The former Milan manager Stefano Pioli has been appointed by Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr, reportedly signing a three-year contract. “Pioli Is Nassrawi. We welcome Stefano Pioli as our new coach,” the club posted on X.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s side have drawn two of their first three league games this season, and drew 1-1 with Iraq’s Al-Shorta in the AFC Champions League on Monday. Pioli, who left Milan at the end of last season, will begin his tenure against Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq on Friday.
