Daniel Theis, Jaylen Brown respond to Bruce Brown’s negative comments on Boston’s frontcourt sans Timelord

Brooklyn Nets forward Bruce Brown inadvertently set off a minor firestorm with his enthusiasm to play the Boston Celtics after beating the Cleveland Cavaliers in the play-in tournament to secure a first-round series with Boston. Suggesting that the Celtics “not having Robert Williams is huge” because the Nets can “attack (Daniel) Theis and (Al) Horford in the paint,” Brown earned a rare reproach from teammate Kevin Durant for uttering the bulletin board material.

Asked about the comments in post-practice media availability Thursday, Boston’s Theis was asked if he’d heard the comments. “I did,” he replied. “He said what he said. For us, show it on the court. If he thinks the way he thinks, we’re going to prove him wrong.”

That sentiment was echoed by teammate Jaylen Brown, who was asked how to respond to the comments made by his Nets counterpart. You don’t,” he explained. “You respond with action — we’ll be ready to go on Sunday.”

The Celtics will have their opportunity at 3:30 pm ET on the day Brown noted, and how Theis and Horford play may indeed have a major factor on the outcome of the series plays out. But probably all agree that Bruce Brown’s impetuous words were probably not the wisest of preambles to that contest.
