Daniel Ricciardo will start Sunday's Belgian grand Prix in the top 10 after penalties boosted the Australian driver up the grid.
The McLaren driver was 11th fastest around the famous Spa-Francorchamps circuit, narrowly missing out on the final qualifying session.
But grid penalties for drivers ahead of Ricciardo will push the Australian up to seventh when the race begins on Sunday evening, Australian time.
World championship leader Max Verstappen was fastest in Belgium, but he is one of six drivers taking grid penalties for new parts to their car.
The Red Bull driver will start the race 15th, alongside his Ferrari title rival Charles Leclerc who also took a grid penalty.
Ferrari's Carlos Sainz, who was the second fastest in qualifying, will start from pole with Red Bull's Sergio Perez in second.
"Overall, relatively pleased with the performance of the car," Ricciardo said.
"Just another one where we missed that little bit."
It has been a drama-filled week for Ricciardo who announced he would be ending his time with McLaren at the end of the season.
The Australian still has one year left on his contract, but both parties agreed to end their partnership early.
Ricciardo has nine races left with the famed British team, with no certainty he will drive in F1 next season.
"It's been a busy week, so, I'm just looking forward to watching the lights go out and getting on with the [race]," he said.
