Daniel Radcliffe reveals how he deals with fans telling him he was 's**t' in Harry Potter

Daniel Radcliffe has shared his reaction to critics telling him they thought he was “s**t” in Harry Potter, in a new interview.

Radcliffe, 33, gained global fans for his portrayal as the young wizard in the film franchise, however he spoke to GQ Magazine about the negative feedback he has also received for the role.

The actor features in the latest issue in an animated photoshoot, ahead of the release of his new film Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. He told the publication he believes people think their brutally honest opinions will, strangely, bring them “closer” to him.

He told GQ: “It’s said to me in a way like, ‘we’re gonna be closer after I tell you the truth about how I feel.’

“You can feel that, but I’m not gonna be like, ‘yeah, man!’ - it was ten years of my life.”

Radcliffe shot to fame at the mere age of 11 in 2000, after he was cast as the lead role in the Harry Potter film series.

He spoke in his latest interview about how it “took a long time” for him to understand the effects being in such intense spotlight as a child would have on his life.

Radcliffe said: “Sometimes if you’re denying the reality of what’s going on, that can actually make your life harder to live.

“It took a long time, is what I’m saying. But my late teens or early 20s was where I was like, ‘You have to accept life is gonna be different for you.’”

The actor is seen in a suitably bizarre array of shots for GQ magazine’s new issue, considering his latest role playing wacky US singer ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic.

Radcliffe stars as the musician in the satirical parody biopic Weird: The Al Yankovic Story by Eric Appel, and is seen in one shot for GQ holding an accordion, like the musician often does.

The Harry Potter star appears transformed as Grammy Award-winning Yankovic in the movie teasers released, as he is appears onstage in a curly wig and moustache in character, performing Yankovic’s career-defining parodies of hit songs.

Fans can catch Radcliffe’s performance as Yankovic as the movie is released on November 4.
