Daniel O'Donnell delights locals as he pops into north Dublin Centra to pick up some 'wee Smarties'

There was a great buzz in the Bayside area of north Dublin yesterday as they were treated to a visit from none other than wee Daniel O'Donnell.

The Donegal crooner popped into Mark Breslin's Centra to the surprise of staff including Ciara McCluskey who has become something of a local celebrity following the encounter. A brilliant picture of the pair was posted up onto Facebook with the caption "Wee Daniel heard about our fantastic customer service here in CENTRA BAYSIDE and popped by to say hi".

Speaking to Dublin Live, Ciara said that he popped in for some "wee Smarties" and was very friendly. She was working with her colleague Sheila at the time and as Sheila served him, Ciara took her opportunity to get a snap with the star.

She said: "I was in work and we were on the till and next of all I looked up and I was like...oh my god, is that Daniel O'Donnell? So I said "hi, how are you, can I help you?" and he just said "I'm looking for some wee Smarties" and I said oh right okay, and I came round and said oh we actually have none.

"I said is there anything in particular you're looking for and he just said that he was looking for some kids sweets. He got a couple of Kinder Buenos, two Milky Bars and a little Dairy Milk bar, and that was it!"

"I said to Daniel, "would you mind if I got a selfie with you?" and he was like no, just let me fix my hair and he fixed his hair and took his glasses off and just got the picture and I said thank you so much and he just said no bother, have a nice day."

After the picture was posted on Facebook, Ciara said within five minutes there was a rush of women to the shop that reminded her of the scene with Eoin McLove in Father Ted.

She continued: "One particular woman was like, "oh my god, where is he? Where is he? What did he buy?". So yeah, everyone was coming in. He was very friendly, I have to say, very, very friendly."

Locals were delighted with one chiming in "Gowan Ciara I hope he didn’t ask to fix ur boiler", while another added "Ciara your more famous than him lol lol x".
