Tottenham's former Director of Football has praised Daniel Levy for his work during transfer windows and despite some failed deals, Antonio Conte is likely to also have a squad boost.
There is just over 24 hours left before the January transfer window deadline and Spurs have waited until the final week to try and get some much needed deals done.
The Lilywhites have so far seen four academy players depart, three on loan and one permanent, but are yet to confirm any movement within the first team.
Fans have become increasingly frustrated with those in charge at the failed moves for the likes of Adama Traore and Luis Diaz, only seemingly moving forward with deals in the final week of the window.
The Tottenham players have started returning to Hotspur Way after the two week break which began after a third defeat of the month to Chelsea.
The time off has given the players a chance to get away with friends and family, as well as recharge ready for fixtures to resume.
The Lilywhites will return to their busy schedule, which starts with an FA Cup fourth round tie against Brighton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Spurs sit seventh in the Premier League, two points off fourth place Man United and with two games in hand, with the battle for a top four spot still on.
Before the break Conte had been struggling with a number of injuries to his squad, including Son Heung-min and Cristian Romero, who have both been big blows for Spurs.
"Sonny is not available, not yet. We have to wait. He’s recovering very well," the Italian said ahead of the Chelsea game, before the break. "I’m sure we will have to wait until after the international break.
"Cristian is almost ready to come back. For sure, after the international break, he can play, and that’s good news for us."
Romero returning to the back line would be a big boost for the Lilywhites and Son took to social media to let fans know he is working hard to get back to action, with a picture of his football boots and the caption reading "soon".
Bringing in some fresh faces is definitely needed for Conte's side, to help them make the much needed step up in quality.
However, if there are only a couple of incomings then the 52-year-old may have his own boost, in the form of his current squad.
In Tottenham's Amazon documentary, All or Nothing, chairman Daniel Levy said, "I get very frustrated if at the end of a transfer window the team is not in a better place than it started," but with players returning from a break and potential injured players also close to getting back to action, the Spurs boss may find some extra strength in his current squad.
Conte has made the relevant evaluations of his players, from his own admission, so will now be getting to grips with his new players, in terms of what and who works well and where.
In February the Lilywhites play Brighton, Southampton, Wolves, Man City and then Leeds and although it won't be easy, with a fully fit squad the 52-year-old will hope his side can get as many points on the table as possible.
The lack of business done this window has left many fans confused and frustrated but Levy has received praise from the club's former Director of Football, Frank Arnesen.
"You also have clubs where there are owners who are very hands-on, and they want to do the negotiations, like Tottenham. Daniel does it himself and is very good at it," Arnesen admitted in an interview with The Athletic.
"But he has no understanding about the football game and doesn’t interfere if you want a left-back or a right-winger. He trusts his manager and the sporting director to do that work."
The 65-year-old went on to explain his thought process during transfers, which could be a reason why Tottenham haven't signed anyone yet.
"If you think this player is, let’s say, £15 million, and they ask for £30 million, then I say, ‘OK, good luck, we’ll go for another player’. I’ve always learned one thing in football and that is: you want this player, but tomorrow there will come a new player."
Arnesen's admission won't be pleasing for Tottenham fans to hear as they want to see their club fighting for transfers and getting in their number one targets.
However if Levy manages to complete a couple of new signings, which is looking likely with Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur, as well as having players returning from injury and those returning from a much needed rest, there will be hope the Lilywhites can finish strong, in the final months of the season.
