Daniel Levy makes final decision on next Tottenham manager amid Nagelsmann and Postecoglou talks

Tottenham are nearing the appointment of their next manager as the north London side prepare to begin their next chapter under a new project. Spurs are without a head coach or director of football after a turbulent few months saw the direction of the football club change.

Antonio Conte was dismissed a few months before the end of his contract at Spurs, while Fabio Paratici's worldwide football ban saw him leave his post. The Lilywhites went on to miss out on European football come the end of the season, with the decision over a new boss being a huge one.

"Honestly, I think as I said we probably need to understand where we want to go and who we want to be and that's the most important thing," interim boss Ryan Mason said on the direction of the football club over the close season.

"Once you decide that then you can employ the people that fit that and then I think everyone is quite clear on the direction we would like to go. We have quite big squad. Whoever is in charge in pre-season, there are a lot of players and decisions to make.

"Ultimately I think we need to get back to who we want to be, who our fans want us to be and then going forward we will have better results on a more consistent basis."

Plenty of candidates have been linked with a switch, but ultimately have been missed out on, such as Arne Slot who signed a new contract at Feyenoord. There was also Julian Nagelsmann, who was heavily reported with a move following his dismissal from Bayern Munich.

However, the German coach was overlooked and, according to Fabrizio Romano, is now on the list for PSG as a potential option for their project. Instead, according to reports from the Athletic, Ange Postecoglou is nearing the role as the Australian manager is expected to finalise the details of his contract.

The Celtic boss has been coy over his future with the media, instead looking to focus on the task at hand with the Glasgow club as they secured a historic treble. "I'm going to be a little bit selfish," he said after the cup final victory on Saturday.

"People around me have all worked hard to enjoy this moment, so that's what I'm going to do. I will enjoy it for as long as I can before people drag me away to talk about other things."

It remains to be seen when this announcement will go through, but it appears as though Spurs are approaching the dawn of yet another new era.
