Daniel Levy Harry Kane decision made with ‘confident’ Real Madrid offer insulting to Tottenham

Real Madrid are confident in signing Harry Kane for as little as £68million, according to Spanish reports.

Just one year left on his contract places Tottenham Hotspur - and Daniel Levy - in an inevitable position. Now could be the only time to recoup a transfer fee or risk losing one of the world’s best strikers for nothing next year.

As it stands, Kane has stayed coy on his future, refusing to be drawn on speculation which seems to persist each summer. Levy, on the other hand, has made no secret of his desire to keep the England captain in North London.

“He (Kane) can absolutely win a trophy at Spurs, but being a legend is also important,” Levy told the Cambridge Union in April. “The fact that he’s the top scorer for Tottenham Hotspur, he’s making history. I hope one day there is a statue of Harry Kane outside our stadium.”

Real Madrid are gearing up for a heavy summer after losing frontman Karim Benzema to Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ittihad. Signing Kane would be a like-for-like replacement for the Frenchman - replacing one elite striker with another.

Spanish outlet Marca claim Madrid - given the 29-year-old’s age and contract situation - will try to persuade Spurs with a cut-price offer. The piece also suggests Levy may be open to selling Kane to a foreign club at a discount, but he has proven to be a ruthless negotiator in the transfer market over the years and is unlikely to except an offer as low as £68m.

As far as the bookmakers are concerned, Kane is equally likely to be playing for Tottenham or Los Blancos come September 1. Manchester United - also looking for a striker - trail behind despite pleas from their supporters to bring the England talisman to Old Trafford.
