Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy previously insisted that Mauricio Pochettino would ‘always be welcome’ in north London as rumours intensify over a return.
The Argentine faces an uncertain future at Paris Saint-Germain despite having led the French giants to the Ligue 1 crown over the last few days. They were crowned as champions with a 1-1 draw with Lens but fans have been left unsatisfied with the club’s early Champions League exit, leading to rumours that Pochettino could be sacked sooner rather than later.
It has been rumoured that current Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has offered his services to the club, with talk suggesting that Levy could turn to former boss Pochettino as a potential replacement.
Amid the Argentine’s original sacking in 2019, Levy suggested that a return - whether that be in a professional or guest capacity - could be on the cards. In a club statement, he wrote: "We were extremely reluctant to make this change and it is not a decision the Board has taken lightly, nor in haste.
“Regrettably domestic results at the end of last season and beginning of this season have been extremely disappointing. It falls to the Board to make the difficult decisions - this one made more so given the many memorable moments we have had with Mauricio and his coaching staff - but we do so in the Club's best interests.
“Mauricio and his coaching staff will always be part of our history. I have the utmost admiration for the manner in which he dealt with the difficult times away from a home ground whilst we built the new stadium and for the warmth and positivity he brought to us.

"I should like to thank him and his coaching staff for all they have contributed. They will always be welcome here.”
Despite excellent work in north London, Pochettino and his backroom staff were originally released from their contracts in November 2019 after an underwhelming start to the 2019/20 campaign. Jose Mourinho was drafted in as his replacement but lasted just under 18 months before he was given his own marching orders.
Since then, Levy has turned to Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte, the latter having finally appeared to have got Spurs back on track. The north London side are currently embroiled in a battle to earn a Champions League place.
They currently sit fifth and two points behind rivals Arsenal ahead of what appears to be a key north London derby next month. The two sides clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with a top four place the likely prize for the victor - as well as three points.
Current Spurs boss Conte only signed a contract until the summer of 2023, whilst Pochettino’s current PSG deal expires at the same time. In all, the latter has overseen 80 matches in all competitions at the Parc des Princes, winning 54 of those.
