It could take up to six years before a mansion seized from mob boss Daniel Kinahan can even go on sale.
Senator Sharon Keogan fears the €2 million pad seized by the Criminal Assets Bureau from the Kinahan cartel in Saggart, Co Dublin, could end up on its books, or that of an appointed receiver, for years. She said the mansion could be used now to help ease the housing crisis – but it could take up to six years before it can be used in any way.
Senator Keogan added: “As far as I know it is six years, which seems an extraordinary amount of time to hold on to property seized by the State.” Her concerns come as the High Court made an order earlier this month that the CAB can seize the property, which was found to have been “effectively owned” by cartel boss Daniel Kinahan.

Justice Minister Helen McEntee said that she intends to reduce the amount of time it takes for a home seized by the CAB. She added: “My intention is to reduce the statutory timeframe before a Disposal Order can be made from seven years.”
