Daniel Dubois(Dynamite), a heavyweight title contender, made a stunning comeback to victory by stopping Jarrell Miller(Big Baby) in the final eight seconds of a demanding 10-round battle on the Day of Reckoning undercard in Riyadh.
Dubois(20-2, 19KOs) from England got off to a great start, hitting punches and launching a great one-two. He stepped around Miller(26-1-1, 22KOs), who continued to drag along.
But, Dubois, 26, began pushing Miller, 35, away, an exhausting move against a man who weighed more than 300 pounds. As he stood his ground and engaged Miller from US in a strength-based battle, he was drawing himself into the wrong fight.
Dubois’s heart and determination have been in question following his losses to Oleksandr Usyk and Joe Joyce, but he overcame those uncertainties by regaining control of the bout and ultimately eliminating Miller.
During the last round, Miller attempted to exert more speed and force in his punches, but Dubois stopped him with a right uppercut and a right cross.
“I had to finish strong. I always look for the knockout. I want to fight all of the best fighters. I’ve regained the confidence that might have been missing before,” said Dubois in media reports.
Miller was driven across the ring by Dubois while he was being rocked, and in the closing moments of the bout, the referee intervened to stop Miller.
“It really mattered and that was a big moment. It was a great fight and I’m glad I came through it. I showed my heart. I knew I had to get out there and work. This was an important win for me,” said Dubois.
“I’m a prideful fighter. I’m learning new things every day. I had my dad screaming in my corner and I just had to get out there and work. I had to prove it to myself; to show myself that I’m a real fighter and can become a champion. I silenced the doubters tonight,” he added.
“Daniel D’s no quitter. I’ve been out of activity for a while. I took this fight at four weeks’ notice and gave it everything I’ve got. The main thing is I’m back in the ring and I’m going to be active. I’ll get back in shape and have a longer camp,” said Miller in media reports.
