A NEW yellow warning for wind has been extended and now covers the whole of Scotland.
It comes as the Met Office named Storm Eowyn which is set to bring strong winds to the UK this weekend.
The yellow warning will come into force at midnight on Friday, January 24 and last until 11.59pm on the same day.
A second yellow warning will come into force at midnight on Saturday, January 25 although will end at 3pm on the same day.
The forecaster warned to expect the following:
- Power cuts are likely to occur, with the potential to affect other services such as mobile phone coverage
- Road, rail, air and ferry services likely to be affected with cancellations possible and the closure of some roads and bridges
- A chance of damage to buildings and homes could occur, with “roofs blown off and power lines brought down”
- Injuries and danger to life could occur from flying debris
The Met Office said that there would be peak gusts of between 60 and 70mph inland and 80-90mph along some coasts and hills.
