Dancing on Ice: Stephen Mulhern's Eastenders ex and 'kiss' with Holly Willoughby

It has been reported that Stephen Mulhern will be the one to step into Phillip Schofield's shoes as co-presenter on Dancing on Ice this weekend.

It comes after normal host Phil revealed that he has tested positive for coronavirus earlier in the week and the 59-year-old would need two negative lateral flows tests to be able to return to the skating show to host alongside Holly Willoughby.

An ITV insider reportedly told The Mirror : "While Phil is off recovering, Stephen was delighted to be asked to step in to fill his shoes and present alongside Holly."

They added: "He gets on with everyone so bosses are more than happy for him to step up. Everyone's wishing Phil a quick recovery and hoping to see him back in his rightful place later this month."

Stephen Mulhern is a familiar face on our screens, known for his numerous appearances on ITV including Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, Britain’s Got Talent and Catchphrase.

Actor and presenter Stephen, 44, has a long and established career under his belt, having first entered the world of show business way back in 1998 as the main presenter on CITV.

While his on-screen life is an open book, he prefers to keep his off-screen life a bit more under wraps and is often fairly private about his love life and romances.

The Saturday Night Takeaway and In for a Penny presenter last spilled the beans on his love life back in 2018.

Stephen confessed he was a "single pringle" and admitted his busy career had got in the way of finding true love.

Speaking to Celebs Now, he said: "Last time I went on a date was about four years ago."

He joked as he added: "That makes me sound really sad! I need a life. I need to stop working so much."

With such a quiet love life, it may come as a surprise to some that he did once have a budding romance with a popular soap star.

Back in 2008, Stephen was linked to EastEnders star Emma Barton and reportedly started dating the popular actress a few years before she joined the cast of the BBC soap as Honey Mitchell.

The pair met and were said to have grown close in a pantomime production of Snow White in Birmingham.

But it was only once the relationship was already over that it became public knowledge.

They never admitted they were an item until after the relationship was over in 2011, when Stephen said his time with Emma came to a "natural end".

Stephen hasn’t been linked to any other potential love interests since his split with Emma.

Back in the day before his romance with a soap star, Stephen was once very close with co-host Holly Willoughby.

The pair presented Saturday Showdown on CITV together.

Stephen and Holly have always been really good friends, which is why fans were stunned by a throwback clip of the pair locking lips in 2004.

While hosting a festive special of Saturday Showdown together, Stephen gave Holly a present with a green elf hat and some mistletoe inside.

On the show, Holly sang: "Hurray for me! I can kiss all of the boys in the world all of the time.

"Tis the season to kiss Holly, fa la la la la la la la la!"

However, when Stephen leaned in for a kiss on the lips she told him: "No! Stephen, you don't count!"

Stephen replied: "What do you mean, I don't count? Whoever you are under the mistletoe with you must kiss".

After giving her another Christmas kiss, Holly exclaimed: "Don't wear my lips out, I am going to be kissing Anthony from Blue soon..."

As Stephen went on to kiss her another three times over the course of the show, Holly took the hat off and said to Stephen: "You are definitely on the naughty list!"

The hilarious throwback video circulated across social media, including on TikTok, Twitter and Instagram.

Stephen has admitted he prefers to lead a private life away from his career on screen.

During an interview in 2019, he said: "I'd never do a reality show.

"I would never do Dancing On Ice or I'm A Celebrity… because I do like to keep myself to myself.

"You've got to do the kind of shows I do — it's the shows you turn down that define you."

Dancing On Ice airs Sundays at 6pm on ITV and ITV Hub
