Dancing On Ice star Bez claims he was nearly shot dead in scary drug row

Dancing On Ice star Bez has opened up about the time he almost lost his life in the middle of a drug row.

The Happy Mondays singer, 57, revealed how he had a gun held to his throat after he fell out with South American drug dealers during a stateside trip to New York.

And he claims that the only reason he escaped was because a pal managed to distract the gangster and all Bez and his mates to make a run for it.

The horror incident was described in the star's new book titled Freaky Dancing: Me and The Monday’s.

He wrote about how the scare happened in the 1980s and said: "A Puerto Rican gang surrounded us and this kid pulled out a gun and shoved it in my throat.

"It dawned on me that I might have a problem on my hands. But God must have been looking down on me because a guy then appeared at the end of the alleyway and quickly diffused the situation and dragged me away while I was arguing the toss.

"Maybe I was a bit too excited and overly animated at the time but I can be like that when I am on drugs."

It's the latest revelation from the Dancing On Ice favourite, who also said he once lived in a Moroccan cave to escape angry locals.

After being booted out of his family home in Salford, Greater Manchester, and falling foul of the authorities, he upped sticks and headed to Morocco in North Africa.

He told the Guardian magazine: "At the peak of my rebellion, I did time in detention centres and borstals.

"I was living on the street and getting into all sorts of trouble. By the time I was about 19, I decided the best thing was to have a huge adventure and go travelling.

"I lived in Morocco for a bit and was shoplifting to survive, pinching bars of chocolate.

"I got chased out of town and had to hide in a cave for three weeks until money I’d been waiting for arrived."

The star has since said that his past and drug use is behind him and admits he now enjoys a healthier lifestyle.

And earlier this month he confessed that he didn't think Dancing On Ice was a "proper skate competition" as he wouldn't be involved in it if it was.

He survived another week this weekend as Love Island favourite Liberty Poole became the latest celeb to get the boot.

The blonde beauty was voted off after the skate off against Kye Whyte, but some fans were less than impressed with the decision.
