Dancing on Ice's Jayne Torvill undergoes surgery before semi final as Chris Dean issues update

Jayne Torvill has undergone surgery just days before the Dancing on Ice semi final, with her fellow judge and skating partner Christopher Dean giving an update to reassure fans.

Fans of the Winter Olympic legends first got a hint that something was up, when a post on Torvill and Dean's Twitter account, prior to Sunday's episode of the hit ITV programme said said there was 'news' coming on the show. And, while some followers hoped that might mean have meant the return of the Dancing on Ice live tour, or another performance from the pair on the rink in the studio, Jayne had a very different sort of announcement to make as cameras rolled.

Before Sunday's performances kicked off, Jayne told host Phillip Schofield: "Talking of things going wrong on the ice, I've injured my bicep tendon so I need to get surgery...I am going to have to have surgery.

Just recovery now. Thank you for all you well wishes," before, addressing the fact it was the start of a new month, adding: "White rabbits too."

Torvill and Dean fans, who were delighted to hear that all had gone well with Jayne's operation,k were quick to respond to the tweet, with one replying: "Sending lots of love and I hope she has a speedy recovery, thank you for keeping us updated Chris" and a second writing: "Speedy recovery wishes to Jayne, hope you're not in too much pain."
