Dancing On Ice's Jayne Torvil returns for semi-final as she shares health update

Dancing On Ice judge Jayne Torvill returned with her arm in a sling after sustaining a painful injury last month on the ice.

The ITV celebrity talent competition returned for the semi-finals with This Morning stars Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby once again hosting rinkside.

The remaining five celebrities and their partners took to the ice twice as they fought for their places in the climax of the competition, under the watchful eyes of judges Oti Mabuse, Ashley Banjo, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.

As the ice panel appeared in the studio, Jayne was once again sporting a sling on her right arm after she revealed she had sustained an injury that had left her requiring surgery.

Jayne confirmed she had ruptured her bicep tendon and needed to undergo an operation to rectify the injury.

Jayne’s professional partner Chris took to social media this week to give fans an update on his skating partner’s progress, writing on Twitter : “Jayne is out of surgery and all went well.

“Just recovery now. Thank you for all your well wishes. White rabbits too,” he added with smiley and rabbit emojis.

The Dancing on Ice stars The Vivienne, Joey Essex, Nile Wilson, Siva Kaneswaran and Mollie Gallagher faced their toughest challenge yet, as each delivered two performances in a bid to impress both the judges and viewers at home.

A double elimination was lined up for this weekend’s semi-final, with two celebrities exiting the competition to leave three to take to the ice next weekend and battle it out to bag the Dancing on Ice win.

It comes after Carley Stenson broke down in tears as she was eliminated from Dancing on Ice last Sunday.

The 40-year-old actress – who is best known for her role as Steph Cunningham in the Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks -- had been competing in the ITV1 skating competition alongside Mark Hanretty.

She became emotional after missing out on a place in this week's semi-final episode and admitted she will 'miss' her professional partner.

She told hosts Holly and Phillip last weekend: “It just got harder. I'm gonna miss this man. I've really enjoyed it, this is all a bit of a blur actually.”

The former West End star landed in the skate-off against Siva Kaneswaran and his partner Klabera Komini but failed to impress the judging panel.

Dancing on Ice continues Sunday, 6:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
