Dancing on Ice's Christopher Dean reveals how painful injury is impacting show

Dancing On Ice judge Christopher Dean has revealed how his recent injury has affected the show, ahead of a looming performance.

The ITV series makes a comeback on Sunday with a brand new line-up, with Chris and skating partner Jayne Torvill set to return to the judging panel - while also performing routines.

But this week it was revealed Chris had to go to hospital after sustaining a painful injury off the ice.

Showing off his bandaged finger on social media, Chris confirmed he had broken a bone just days before the show's return.

Now, speaking on Good Morning Britain, Chris has confessed the small injury is having a big impact on his comeback performance on the show.

While he confirmed he would be fine to take part and would still perform with Jayne, he admitted his injury changed one of the manoeuvres.

As he showed hosts Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard his bandaged finger he repeated how he managed to do it.

He said: "It was a darkened room, I just fell over in the dark. It's not safe off of the ice I'm afraid."

On whether he dramatised his injury, Jayne said: "He didn't actually, I think he was annoyed with himself," adding he didn't actually tell her for a few days

As Chris commented that the injury had affected things on the show, Ben asked: "It is actually impacting what you are doing?"

Chris explained that one particular grip during a routine has been impacted, as he now only has three fingers to grab onto Jayne with instead of four.

Jayne added: "At first I was afraid of holding his hand because we're always holding hands, and I didn't want to hurt him but he's got his splint."

Asked if Chris was ready for the show, Jayne said: "Absolutely," as Chris joked his broken finger "should have its own moment".

Sharing a snap of his bandaged finger earlier this week, he wrote: "We were trying the Iron Lotus, but ended up doing a Half Nelson [referencing a fictional move in Blades of Glory] or did I just fall over a suitcase in the middle of the night."

Fans and friends rushed to social media to send their well wishes to Christopher, who will be back on our screens on Sunday night.

"I would go with the iron lotus story. Makes it look more heroic," one wrote, as another offered their advice to the skating star and added: "Not sure these days but treatment for a finger fracture used to be strapping the fractured one alongside the one next to it to 'splint' it. Might be more comfortable and help it to heal."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.
