Dancers kick off St Patrick's Day celebrations at Dublin Airport

Dublin Airport is gearing up for a busy St Patrick's weekend with a host of Irish dancers.

The performing group 'Twist of Irish' entertained large numbers of incoming passengers this morning at arrivals. The Malahide based dance troupe performed in the airport following consultation with the daa and Failte Ireland.

Dublin Live saw the dancers perform at the airport as Patrick's Day celebrations continue. The airport is expecting a high footfall in the coming days, as American tourists head to the capital in large numbers.

Daa spokesman Graeme McQueen told Dublin Live: "We've lots of American flights coming over at the moment and we want to give them a taste of what Ireland is like. There will be nearly 450,000 people at the airport over the next five days and the aim is to set people off on their journey in good spirits."

Mary Grimes from Twist of Irish said that the dancers were enjoying the day out. She explained that she also danced at Dublin Airport for St Patrick's Day celebrations at a younger age, adding that many performers have fond memories of the occasion.

She told Dublin Live: "We're here today to entertain people. We're staying on a little longer than planned as the bad weather has slightly delayed some flights but there's been a great buzz at the airport this morning."

Meanwhile, It's predicted that around 220,000 passengers will depart from Dublin Airport to go overseas between March 16 and March 20. Dublin Airport is advising short-haul passengers to arrive two hours early, while those flying long-haul are advised to arrive three hours early.
