Dan Walker shuts down speculation over Sally Nugent's BBC absence with 'no drama' post

Dan Walker has been quick to shut down speculation on why Sally Nugent was absent from BBC Breakfast on Monday, telling viewers there was 'no drama.'

It's now been two weeks since long-serving breakfast presenter and former Football Focus host quit the BBC, after previously announcing he'd signed a deal to move to Channel 5 to be their main news presenter. Sally was in the studio as Dan hosted for the final time, with another one of his former colleagues, Louise Minchin, also making a surprise arrival, months after she also quit BBC Breakfast.

Dan is due to make his Channel 5 debut next week but is clearly still keeping a keen eye on how things are going on his former stomping ground, as on Monday, he took to Twitter to share a screen grab of a news article with a headline which read 'BBC's Sally Nugent missing from show just days after Dan Walker's exit,' adding that Sally had been replaced by Nina Warhurst.

Reacting to the story Dan, a contestant on Strictly last year, wrote: "She’s a mum. It’s half-term. Zero drama," using a frustrated emoji to get his point across. One of the most obvious replies to his tweet came from Sally herself, who chose to react with a crying laughing emoji.

One of Dan's followers responded: "Sally is my favourite, she so deserves a well earned break," with another telling him: "This seems to happen every single time a regular presenter is missing. They’re on annual leave for goodness sake!"

Dan's public show of support for Sally came a week before he is due to begin his new job at Channel 5. When the news broke a few months ago, Dan I'm really excited but this has also been a massive decision for me as I love BBC Breakfast, I love working alongside Sally (Nugent) and I love the team there.

"But Channel 5 came with big ambitions, with big plans and I don't think opportunities like this come along very often and I can't wait."

Dan will step into the Channel 5 News job held by another former BBC anchor, Sian Williams. On replacing her, he said: "I know how popular she is with both the team and also the audience, so all I can say is I will do my very best to maintain her high standards."
