Dan Walker shows off BBC Breakfast's gross carpets after announcing he's quitting show

Dan Walker may have left BBC Breakfast, but part of the set has left a lasting impression on the presenter.

The 45-year-old uploaded a shocking pic to social media just days after switching from BBC to Channel 5.

And his followers were seemingly unimpressed by his disturbing revelation of a "strange" stain.

Posting to his Instagram, Dan showed a large stain coming from underneath the Breakfast show's red sofa.

He was heard saying: "Well, welcome to the world of the strange BBC Breakfast stain", before he showed off the unknown red stain.

A woman can then be heard questioning what it is before Dan bursts into laughter.

Dan is set to leave his role after six years to take over as the anchor of Channel 5 news.

He made the announcement in a video posted on his Instagram. Alongside the clip of him explaining his big news he wrote: "Some personal news today…

"Big decision for me to leave @bbcbreakfast but I’m really excited to join @channel5_tv & @c5news.

"It’s been a real privilege to work with some amazing people at Breakfast and I’ve had such a happy 6 years alongside @louiseminchin, & then @sallynugenttv, and the rest of the wonderful team."

He ended his post by thanking everyone who had left comments regarding his news.

Among those wishing him good luck was Nick Knowles, who wrote: "You will be sorely missed. You always were reassuring, never scaremongering, empathetic and looked for the good stories and never delighted in the bad ones.

"Great signing for Ch5 who are showing real ambition and making some top shows. I look forward to seeing what you’re making for them."

Nikita Kuzmin also penned: "Best of luck my friend," while fellow Strictly Come Dancing contestant Sara Davies said: "Ouh changing times! Excited to see what the future holds!"

Taking to the sofa the following day he sat next to co-star Sally Nugent and replied to her emotional send off.

He said: "As you know - as I explained to you before all the news came out - this has been a really difficult decision for me. Probably the hardest decision I've had to make in my career.

"Because I love you to bits and I love working with you."

After Sally told him she loved him too, he continued: "And I love the team at BBC Breakfast. These six years I've had on this sofa have been the best six years of my career by some distance. But I think sometimes opportunities come by and you have to grab them, don't you?

"I've never ever been motivated by money in any job that I've ever taken and even though I love BBC Breakfast and everybody that works on the show, it's a fantastic opportunity to work with a brilliant team at Channel 5. And also, go an make some other programmes outside of here."
