Messing with One Direction fans can be risky... just ask Dan Walker.
The BBC Breakfast host was sent five death threats after his infamous run-in with Louis Tomlinson on the morning sofa.
Dan revealed: “Every day I get hundreds of messages – some lovely, some angry.
“When I interviewed Louis Tomlinson, five people threatened to kill me – including one who said they were going to come over from Brazil.”
Louis vowed never to go on BBC Breakfast again after he accused presenters Dan and Louise Minchin of “proper going in” on him when appeared on the show in February 2020.
He was first questioned about his grief following the deaths of his mother Johannah Deakin, 43, in 2016, and his sister Felicite, 18, who died of an accidental drug overdose.
Then he was asked about his spat with band member Zayn Malik, prompting him to say: “God, you’re proper going in here today aren’t you?”
He went on to say: “I’m just not ready to have that conversation yet and I think that is fair enough.”
When asked if One Direction would get back together, Louis answered: “You’ve ticked them all off now. You’ve gone trauma, Zayn, and now we are finally on this one.”
A BBC spokesman said at the time: “We wanted to cover all aspects of Louis’s life that have influenced his new album and feel the questioning was fair.”
But Dan added to Waitrose & Partners Weekend that he was unconcerned about being liked.
“I don’t worry about the people who don’t like me. I know we live in a world where everybody judges you. I’ve always had that in my career – and I’ve always backed myself,” he said.
