Dan Walker says he has no memory of terrifying crash and claims he 'could have died'

Dan Walker has revealed he "could have died" after being involved in a horror accident earlier this week.

The 45-year-old broadcaster was rushed to hospital on Monday after he came off his bike following a collision with a car in Sheffield.

He has been left unable to use his hand properly and said he can't remember details of the accident, though he insisted he is "not to blame".

"There is still nothing there, which a large part of me is very happy about," Dan said in a new interview.

The Channel 5 newsreader said he is unable to go into detail at the minute because police might take another week to publish their report.

However, he did say that he is confident the accident wasn't his fault after speaking to a police officer and said he hopes to resolve the incident outside the courts.

"I know I could have died but I also know how easy it is to make a mistake, even when you're trying to be careful.

"I can't really remember what they [the driver] looked like, from that moment they were looking over me as I came round, but I do recall that they looked deeply distressed," he wrote in The Times.

Dan added that he imagines the incident is "all they are thinking about", saying it could have changed the driver's life forever.

He also said that he has asked police if he will be able to speak to the driver and insisted he will keep fans updated.

The former BBC presenter went on to thank the police, NHS, ambulance service and members of the public who helped him following the crash.

Dan confirmed that he hopes to return to his Channel 5 role next week as he has hated "doing nothing" during his recovery.

Dan had been cycling from his home in Sheffield towards the train station on Monday morning when he was hit by a car on a busy roundabout.

He took to Instagram to update his fans of his condition, showing himself with cuts to his face and a bloodied nose.

"I was just thinking about tea but can't do much with my left hand at the minute so these babies have arrived just at the right time," he wrote alongside a snap of his food.

Dan also revealed that his beloved dog Winnie was taking care of him on the sofa while he recovers.
