Dan Walker confirms Channel 5 start date as he swaps Sally Nugent for new co-host

Dan Walker has confirmed when fans will finally get to see him in his new job. The presenter hosted his final BBC Breakfast show earlier this month after announcing his decision to leave last month.

When revealing his exit from his BBC One role after six years, Dan shared his next move and told fans that he'd be the host of Channel 5's revamped 5 News as he replaces Sian Williams.

During his last appearance on BBC Breakfast on May 17, Dan almost pushed Sally Nugent to tears with his leaving speech in which he gushed over his co-host of six months. And now he has a new sidekick as he shared the first video of them together on-set.

Dan made the announcement that his first on-screen appearance on Channel 5 News will be next Monday, June 6. He revealed his start date on the Jeremy Vine Show, before a clip alongside co-presenter Claudia-Liza Vanderpuije was uploaded. "It’s great to be joining Channel 5, but news is never about who sits in the chair," Dan said in the clip before adding: "It’s the stories that matter most from a team you can trust."

Claudia-Liza then encouraged viewers to join them every weekday at 5pm from June 6. Sharing the 20-second promo clip on both his Twitter and Instagram page, the 45-year-old wrote: "Here we go. See you next Monday at 5, on 5."

Former Strictly professional Oti Mabuse was among the first to comment, writing: "Oh I love her [red heart emoji] congratulations Dan." Katya Jones, who is set to return to the BBC One dance show this year, added: "Get in Dan!!!"

Dan gave his first glimpse at his new role last week. The former Football Focus presenter and Strictly Come Dancing star took to his social media pages to share a photo of himself at the Channel 5 studio which will be his new home.

Looking smart in a suit in the black and white snap, Dan told his thousands of followers: "Had a little look around my new TV home today. They all seem lovely at @c5news."
