Dan Walker confirms Channel 5 return following horror crash in new update

Dan Walker has confirmed when he’ll be returning to our TV screens following a horror crash last week. The Channel 5 presenter previously shared how he was “glad to be alive” after his bike collided with a car. You can read more about that here.

Updating his followers on social media the 45-year-old former BBC Breakfast host posted a picture of himself attending the RTS Media Awards. Captioning two photos, which saw him dressed in a blue dinner jacket, he wrote: “It was a real pleasure to host the @RTS_media awards last night in London. Some wonderful winners in an incredible year for big stories and the drugs (prescription) and make-up worked wonders. Thanks for having me.”

Ending the post Dan added: “Back on @5_News later,” confirming that he’d be next on our screens on 5News on Thursday, March 2. The show airs at 5pm each day.

After announcing the news Dan was met with several comments of support. One person wrote: "You have healed well. Hope you’re feeling better Dan." A second echoed: "so lovely to see you looking so much better" after seeing photos of the presenter at the award ceremony.

The RTS Media Awards celebrated and recognised journalism talent across the television industry. This year the BBC led the way with 11 wins across both news and current affairs including network daily news programme of the year for BBC News at Ten and network presenter of the year which was awarded to Clive Myrie.

Former Strictly Come Dancing star Dan announced that he’d been involved in an accident on Monday, February 20. In a post which showed off his injuries he wrote: “Just got home from hospital. Battered and bruised but – amazingly – nothing broken. Very thankful to still be here. I have no memory of anything and just remember coming round on the Tarmac with paramedics and police around me.”

He added: "The helmet I was wearing saved my life today so – if you're on a bike – get one on your head. Smashed my watch and phone, ruined my trousers, my bike is a mess but I'm still here. Currently eating soup through a straw and being looked after by a gorgeous, furry, tired nurse at the end of the sofa."

Following the incident a spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police told the PA news agency that as it was a "minor injury collision" the force would not be "providing details". Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust said their staff "do an amazing job every day helping thousands of patients".

A spokeswoman for the service added: "We are very proud of the care they provide and would like to send our best wishes to Dan Walker for a speedy recovery." For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
