Dan Walker has spoken out about the ongoing scandal surrounding Phillip Schofield and his affair with a 'much younger' male colleague.
Phillip, who was forced to step down from his presenting position on ITV's This Morning, admitted to the affair and took part in a series of interviews with the Sun and the BBC detailing the situation.
He's faced huge backlash from the public and the media, and now Dan has said he hopes people stop the 'relentless hounding' of the star.
Birmingham Live reports that the presenter posted a statement to Instagram, saying :“I really hope the issues at This Morning are investigated and resolved. hope that the individuals involved get the help they need and the show stays on air.”
He continued his statement by adding: “I also hope the relentless hounding from some elements of the media stops. People are clearly on the edge.”
It comes after fallen star Phillip said he was afraid of being "spat on in the street" after admitting he had an affair with a younger male colleague.
In a raw interview with the BBC, Phillip also opened up on his mental health struggles and said he felt he had to speak out and share his version of events.
"I have to. Because there is an innocent person here, who didn't do anything wrong. Who is vulnerable and probably feels like I do," he continued, commenting that both men are feeling the affects of public fallout of the scandal.
Later in the interview, Phillip said: "Do you want me to die? Because that is where I am. I have lost everything." and compared himself to Caroline Flack, a TV presenter who took her own life in 2020. He also spoke about the support he has received from his daughters.
Phillip said: "My daughters saved my life...they haven't left me for a moment. They have been by my side every moment because they are scared to let me out of their sight...if my girls hadn't been there, I wouldn't be here because I don't see a future."
