There was no way Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder could get around it.
The fact that the NFL franchise was going to change its name from Washington Football Team to Commanders was known for weeks — of course, everyone couched it in case it was a GIANT fake-out, which would have been amazing.
But, no: The URL, Joe Theismann and a giant logo at FedEx Field confirmed it. And on Wednesday, Snyder stepped to the microphone and opened his remarks on the new name with this line: “Welcome to NOT the best-kept secret in DC.”
