Washington Commanders and nerve-wracking games have gone hand-in-hand during the 2024 NFL season.
In fact, seven regular season games came down to the very last minute of the game in tight finishes.
Commanders’ head coach Dan Quinn spoke with the media on Friday and mentioned a conversation he had with his wife Thursday night.
“My wife was talking to me last night about the game, and she asked, does she need to be mentally and emotionally prepared for another heart-stopping finish?”
She’s right, you know. As early as Week 2, Jayden Daniels led a final possession drive, which climaxed with an Austin Seibert field goal on the game’s final play in a 21-18 win over the NY Giants.
Quinn’s response: “I laughed and I said, ‘Yeah, honestly, that’s what gets our team rocking the most.’ And it wasn’t funny to her [laughs], but you get it. We do live for these moments and we practice a lot of them. And so, we had some more today.”

In Week 8, the Commanders squandered a 12-0 third-quarter lead, and now the Bears led 15-12. There was time for only a ‘Hail Mary’ heave. The pass was tipped, and Noah Brown stood behind it, gathering the winning score.
Quinn is a big believer in working on end-of-game situations; thus, the Commanders have done this type of work each week.
“I know it seems crazy from the outside, but it doesn’t feel like that on the inside. And there’s a lot of work that goes into that.”
The final four games of the regular season and the Wild Card playoff game in Tampa were literally decided in the final seconds, resulting in nail-biting wins over the Saints, Eagles, Falcons, and Cowboys.
Sounds like Mrs. Quinn knows what to expect this Sunday.
