Dan Quinn has second interview with the Seahawks today

The NFL coaching cycle is finally starting to heat up. Yesterday’s news that Jim Harbaugh has taken the Chargers job should accelerate the process. Right now, there are four teams with head coach openings and the Seahawks are unquestionably the most attractive destination in the bunch.

This week general manager John Schneider is going through a round of second interviews with five different candidates: one offensive coordinator and four defensive coordinators. The biggest name on the list is that of Cowboys DC Dan Quinn, who previously held the same position with Seattle from 2013-2014 before he left to be head coach of the Falcons.

Today it’s Quinn’s turn to get his second interview with the team, according to Ian Rapoport at NFL Network.

Quinn has done mostly-fine work with a loaded Dallas defense, but the results have not been good in the playoffs. The Cowboys were blown out by the lower-seeded Packers in the divisional round, giving up 48 points to Jordan Love, Aaron Jones and company.

It’s still only one game and while there are bigger names and more popular candidates, if they’re going to hire a defensive coach Quinn is probably their best bet outside Bill Belichick, who has not been reported to be involved in their head coach search.

Quinn might also come with a highly-qualified bonus assistant. Yesterday we learned Quinn may be part of a package deal, potentially bringing Chip Kelly with him to Seattle as his offensive coordinator.
