Dan Campbell updates Alex Anzalone’s injury progress

The Lions have battled through an assortment of injuries throughout the season but reinforcements may soon be coming on the defensive side. Linebacker Alex Anzalone looks to still be on track to return at some point during the playoffs. Perhaps even sooner?

Lions head coach Dan Campbell was asked about the status of the linebacker following Monday’s win over the San Francisco 49ers. While Campbell wouldn’t fully say he’s ready to return, his answer does at least provide a positive outlook.

“We’ll see. He’s doing well,” Campbell said about Anzalone. “He’s close. He’s really close.”

Anzalone has been out since breaking his forearm in Week 11 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He hasn’t practiced yet, but Campbell is making it sound like there is a chance, even if it’s a small one, Anzalone returns to practice this week. His status for the all-important Week 18 game against the Minnesota Vikings remains up in the air. If the Lions win Sunday, they’ll have the first-round bye, Anzalone would get another week of rest and should be on track to play in the Divisional Round.
