Dan Campbell Makes Bold Statement After Lions Knock Off Chiefs

Dan Campbell and the Lions left Kansas City with a huge season-opening win after upsetting the Chiefs on Sunday, 21–20.

After the game, Campbell was asked what he learned from Thursday’s victory, to which he had the perfect response.

“I didn’t learn anything. I got verification of what I already knew,” Campbell said in a postgame press conference. “And this is a resilient team. It already was a resilient team, and we added pieces to that resilient team. We’re built to handle some stuff, and we did that today against a very good opponent.”

While many anticipated seeing a much-improved Detroit team in 2023, their performance against the reigning Super Bowl champs blew those expectations out of the water. That is, unless you’re the team’s head coach.

“I told the team we were built for this,” added the 47-year-old, via Colton Pouncy of The Athletic

Campbell’s team justified his beliefs with the season-opening victory against the reigning champs. The team faced a deficit both at halftime and at the end of the third quarter, but continued to make plays in crunch time to secure the statement win.

With a big road win already under their belt, the Lions will begin preparation for their Week 2 tilt against the Seahawks on Sunday, Sept. 17.
