Dan Bentley: Arsenal see £50k bid rejected for Wolves goalkeeper

Arsenal have had an opening bid for Wolves goalkeeper Dan Bentley rejected.

The Gunners are in the market for a goalkeeper this summer to provide competition for David Raya and Bentley has been identified as a target.

Standard Sport understands the opening offer for Bentley was £50,000 - and that has been swiftly rejected by Wolves and is a long way off their valuation.

Bentley has just one year remaining on his contract at Molineux, but Wolves are only interested in selling if the money can be reinvested in the squad.

Arsenal are looking to bolster their goalkeeping options this summer as Aaron Ramsdale could leave the club.

Ramsdale lost his spot as Arsenal’s No1 last season to Raya, whose loan move from Brentford was made permeant last week for £27million.

The Gunners are expecting interest in the England international and would like to sign a home-grown goalkeeper if he does go.

Bentley actually began his youth career at Arsenal, spending seven years with the club before being released in 2008, and knows Gunners goalkeeper coach Inaki Cana from their time together at Brentford.

Bentley joined Wolves in January last year and has been the No2 to Jose Sa in that time.

Arsenal have already worked on their goalkeeping department this summer by securing the services of Karl Hein.

The 22-year-old’s contract had been due to expire at the end of last month, but he agreed to sign a new deal.

Hein, who was Arsenal’s No3 last season, is expected to go out on loan.
