Newcastle United sporting director Dan Ashworth is hoping to come to a final agreement on Sandro Tonali with AC Milan.
The Toon transfer guru - pictured in Milan by the Italian media - will hold face-to-face talks with Milan directors over the transfer fee for the Italian midfielder. With Tonali happy with the personal terms offered by Newcastle via his representatives, the move now hinges on an agreement for the price tag of the defensive midfielder.
Ashworth was filmed by Sky Sport heading for a meeting in Milan with the Serie A club's top brass. The Newcastle supremo hopes to head home with good news and as reported by Chronicle Live, Tonali's medical could potentially be tied up in Romania where he is currently involved with Italy Under-21s at the European Championships.
Newcastle have perhaps got over the biggest hurdle with Tonali agreeing to leave his beloved Milan. With Milan happy to do a deal from a financial point of view to bolster their own coffers, it is said by many that Tonali would not have dared leave the 2022 Serie A champions for any other Italian side.
The Magpies have also progressed quickly on the deal knowing that Chelsea were also keen on the midfield star. The Blues were in touch with Milan in the last 24 hours but United have stole a lead on the chase for Tonali.
A six-year contract is believed to be on the table for the 23-year-old. Tonali is in line to start for Italy as skipper in the U21 Euro battle against France later.
