VIJAYAWADA: Damodar Gautam Sawang, who was recently shifted from the post of director general of police (DGP), is likely to be posted as chairman of Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission.
Sources said the state government has already sent a proposal to governor Biswa bhushan Harichandan recommending Sawang’s name for the post which has been lying vacant for the last six months after the end of P Udaya Bhaskar’s tenure.
The state government on Tuesday abruptly relieved Sawang from the post of DGP without giving any posting and was asked to report to the general administration department (GAD). He is scheduled to retire in July 2023.
Sawang is likely to apply for voluntary retirement to get appointed as chairman of APPSC which is an independent constitutional position.
As per rules, a retired All-India Service officer who worked not below the cadre of principal secretary can be appointed as APPSC chairman.
The governor will make the appointment by issuing a gazette notification.
The gazette notification is likely to be issued appointing him as chairman of APPSC after completion of due process, said sources.
