Damning Paul Pogba verdict delivered as Anthony Martial 'makes' Manchester United transfer call

Welcome to the United On My Mind daily round-up, where we take a look at some of the best Manchester United stories that you might have missed.

It remains to be seen whether this will be Paul Pogba's last season at United, though one BT Sport pundit clearly doesn't think he'd be much of a loss after claiming the World Cup winner doesn't offer anything to the team.

Anthony Martial had a positive impact when he was brought on in the 1-0 victory over West Ham, but could that be the last time he ever pulls on a United shirt?

And finally, a former United player has revealed why he chose to leave Old Trafford.

Pogba 'adds nothing' to United

There was a lot of excitement in the United fanbase when images circulated of Pogba returning to first-team training.

The Frenchman could play a key role in the club's push for a top-four finish this season before possibly leaving in the summer, but one pundit has claimed Pogba's exit might actually not be a bad thing for United.

Joe Cole believes the signing of Bruno Fernandes has meant United no longer no need to rely on Pogba to produce moments of magic and that he would be no great loss if he were to leave at the end of the season.

"I don’t think Pogba adds anything to this side. His race is run at Man United," Cole told BT Sport Score .

"Ever since Bruno Fernandes walked through the door, I think he’s just a percentage better than Pogba in all areas and there’s only room for one of them in the team because of egos.

"So I think his time is done. He needs a new challenge. But I’m a big fan of Bruno Fernandes."

Opinion: I think Pogba is a world-class player and clearly has so much talent, but he's just been too inconsistent at United.

Given the amount of drama his agent Mino Raiola causes, I agree with Cole in that United would be better off without Pogba.

Martial 'decision made'

During United's victory over West Ham, one player who was crucial to the win was Martial.

It's been well documented that Martial intends to pursue a new adventure elsewhere, and Calciomercato have suggested that the France international has decided where he would like to move.

The report adds that United’s current demands are pricing Sevilla and Juventus out of a move, though they add that Juve sporting director, Federico Cherubini, intends to resume negotiations in the coming days.

Opinion: Despite playing well in his brief cameo against West Ham, I still think Martial needs to leave.

Like Pogba, it's difficult to see Martial ever producing on a consistent basis at United and so cutting ties would be best for all involved.

Angel Gomes speaks about leaving United

Angel Gomes was tipped to achieve great things at Old Trafford and so it was a real shame to see him struggle to fulfil his enormous potential before leaving the club to join Lille in 2020.

Before Lille's match against Brest on Saturday, Gomes attended a press conference in which he was asked why he thought things didn't go to plan for him at United.

“I don’t think the opportunity came too quickly at Manchester United. Things come when you deserve them. I achieved good things when I was at Manchester United, which I will remember all my life," he said (as quoted by SportWitness ).

“I don’t think it was rushed, but sometimes there are decisions to be made and you have to know how to get out of your comfort zone.”

Opinion: I'm happy Gomes has settled in at another club.

Great things were expected of him when he was shining in the academy and so it's a shame things never quite worked out, but good on him for leaving in search of regular football instead of chasing a dream that was never going to come true.
