Damien Duff slams 'bizarre' Denmark performance as Danes crash out of World Cup

Damien Duff slammed Denmark's 'bizarre, flat' performance as the European side were sent crashing out of the World Cup by Australia.

Matthew Leckie's second half solo strike sent Denmark packing as the Socceroos picked up a famous win. When the final whistle blew, Denmark were eliminated having picked up just a single point from their three group games.

In the RTE studio after the game, Shelbourne manager Duff was scathing of the Dane's performance on the night. In the eyes of the former Ireland winger, Denmark can have no complaints as the Australians fully deserved their victory.

"They (Australia) definitely came out (In the second half) and they were the ones with the real intensity and eagerness in their game," said Duff.

"Everyone talks about Australia, you know, physicality, big and strong boys. But they have quality as well as I saw first hand living over there.

"You'd have to say over the course of the 90 minutes that they deserved to win the game. Yes, they have that bit of quality as do Denmark, but sometimes it comes down to how much you want to stay in a World Cup.

"You never got that feeling off Denmark of 'here, I'll do anything to go into the knockout rounds."

In Duffer's opinion, the flat and insipid Denmark display was symbolic of the feeling inside the stadium.

"Strange day, the camera never really panned in on the stadium.

"There was a real flatness. You could hear the players speaking on the pitch.

"It's Bizarre you know, FIFA talk about how they sell an amazing product. Well, I don't think it was today.

"Because, to be hearing the players in a World Cup game...

"But yeah, the Danish, a bizarre, flat performance and surprising when they've so much quality."
