Dame Maggie Smith, 88, has left fans in awe as she was unveiled as the new face of Spanish fashion house Loewe.
The star of stage and screen posed for a series of striking photographs as part of the luxury fashion brand’s spring/summer 2024 pre-collection campaign shot by Juergen Teller.
Loewe’s creative director, Jonathan Anderson, shared a few photos from the shoot on Instagram, which saw Smith dressed in a ruffled white and black dress, clutching a burgundy-coloured bag.
Then a second image featured the Downton Abbey star sporting a shaggy two-toned coat while holding the brand’s iconic Puzzle bag in forest green.
After teasing the campaign on social media, Anderson’s post was inundated with messages from fans and famous followers.
Smith’s former Downton Abbey co-star Lily James commented under the photos: “wow wow wow wow”, while Outlander actress Catriona Balfe shared three love hearts.
“This is so epic. LOVE” wrote The White actor Murray Bartlett.
Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levy penned: “Are you kidding me.”
Meanwhile one fan added: “This is seriously the greatest thing I’ve ever seen”. Another added: “She just came and ATE the girls up on a side project!!”
A third commented: “Stoooop she’s everything! Dame everything.”
The campaign comes after Oscar-nominated actress Laura Linney said it was a “real privilege” and “total joy” to work with Smith in feature film The Miracle Club.
Ozark star Linney, 59, cited the Harry Potter actress as part of the reason she wanted to do the Thaddeus O’Sullivan-directed film, which also stars Misery’s Kathy Bates, and follows a group of women from Dublin who go on a pilgrimage to the French town of Lourdes.
Appearing on The Graham Norton show earlier this month, Linney said: “[Dame Maggie Smith] was a big reason for me to do the movie.
“She is a titan and every second I had with her I adored. They say don’t meet your heroes, but I was lucky because she is extraordinary. It was a real privilege and a total joy.”
