A dam collapse in Sudan's eastern Red Sea state has resulted in a tragic situation, with water flooding over nearby homes and causing significant damage. The incident, which occurred at the Arbaat dam, has led to a number of casualties and many individuals reported missing.

The Sudanese health ministry confirmed the collapse of the dam and stated that efforts are underway to assist those affected by the disaster. While the exact number of missing persons remains unclear, reports from local officials suggest a significant toll on the community.

According to local sources, at least four individuals have lost their lives in the floodwaters, with fears that the death toll could rise substantially. The head irrigation official for the Red Sea state described the damage as extensive, highlighting the severity of the situation.

Reports indicate that over 100 people are currently missing, and additional villagers have sought refuge on hilltops to escape the rising waters. The dam, located north of Port Sudan, plays a crucial role in managing floodwaters in the region, making its collapse all the more devastating.

The incident, which occurred following heavy rains, has been compounded by challenges in communication due to mobile network outages in the area. This has hindered the flow of information and response efforts, further complicating the crisis.

Sudan, already grappling with a prolonged conflict and severe flooding, finds itself in the midst of a dire humanitarian situation. Aid organizations have highlighted the urgent need for support in addressing the aftermath of the dam collapse and providing assistance to those affected by the disaster.
