After his release from the Minnesota Vikings last Friday afternoon, running back Dalvin Cook started searching for a new team. Reports came out that he wasn’t going to sign for $4-5 million, but rather seeking a larger contract.
In speaking with NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero on Tuesday, Cook had some poignant words about his search for a new team and wants to get the ball often.
“I want the value. I want somebody who wants Dalvin Cook.”
Cook wants a team to treat him like a franchise running back, or in other words, a bell cow. After how poorly he performed last season in the underlying metrics, that doesn’t feel like a good idea.
It could also be a difficult proposition for a team to fork over a large sum of money. Cook had shoulder surgery this offseason to fix an issue that had been bothering him for years and only has one season where he has played in every game.
At 28 years old, the idea that he will be viewed as a franchise-type player by a team in free agency feels more like a fallacy than reality.
