Dalton Risner wants to stay with Broncos if they ‘value’ him

During his media availability before the Denver Broncos’ season finale last week, guard Dalton Risner was asked about his looming free agency status and if he’ll remain with the team in 2023.

Risner was non-commital, suggesting that the team’s offer will dictate whether or not he stays.

“When it comes to this business, what everyone wants at some point as the player is to be valued, right?” Risner said. “So if the Broncos value me, and they want to keep me here and be a Denver Bronco, I can’t wait. … But at the end of the day, it being a business, me entering this next area of this life, it’s like, ‘OK, where am I going to be valued at?'”

Paraphrased: Risner would like to stay with the team, but only if the price is right.

Risner is a fan-favorite local product from Wiggins, Colorado who was selected by the Broncos in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft. Risner has started all 62 games he has been healthy for since then, but he has been credited with allowing 8.5 sacks over the last two seasons.

Risner’s apparent dip in form has led to some speculation that Denver will not re-sign him, at least not as a highly-paid fifth-year guard. He has made it clear that he would like to stay with the team.

“If the Broncos want to keep me here, I’ll be so grateful to be a Denver Bronco, and I’d love to be able to do that.”

Risner is one of 18 players scheduled to become free agents in March.
