The Dallas Wings made a significant move on Friday by parting ways with head coach Latricia Trammell. Trammell, who led the team for two seasons, compiled a record of 31-49, with a 2-3 playoff record. The Wings' recent season saw them finish with a 9-31 record, missing the WNBA postseason for the first time since 2020.
The decision to relieve Trammell of her coaching duties was announced by the team's President and CEO Greg Bibb, who expressed gratitude for Trammell's contributions and wished her well in her future endeavors. This move comes as part of an extensive review of the team's basketball operations department, with the organization looking to make strategic changes.
In addition to parting ways with Trammell, the Wings are also set to hire a general manager for the first time. Bibb, who previously handled GM duties, emphasized the importance of strengthening the team's basketball operations through this new appointment. The search for a general manager is already underway, with the individual expected to lead the search for the team's next head coach.
Trammell's departure marks the fourth coaching change in the WNBA in the past month, following the exits of Curt Miller, Tanisha Wright, and Teresa Weatherspoon from other teams. None of the four coaches had tenures exceeding three years with their respective organizations.
Looking ahead, the Dallas Wings hold the second-best odds in the upcoming draft lottery, trailing only the Los Angeles team. Additionally, the Wings have the rights to swap picks with the Chicago Sky, who are also participating in the draft lottery scheduled for November 17.
Key players Natasha Howard and Satou Sabally are both unrestricted free agents this offseason, adding further intrigue to the team's roster dynamics moving forward.
