Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy has suggested he is a ‘big fan’ of Odell Beckham Jr. as the star receiver decides his next NFL team.
The 30-year-old is the top free agent available and the Cowboys are set to be one of the teams in the mix for his signature. Beckham was well on his way to being MVP of the Super Bowl when he tore his ACL during the Los Angeles Rams win over the Cincinnati Bengals back in February.
The original hope was for Beckham to find a team in mid-November, but reports are now suggesting he will return to full health and sign with a franchise by December. Several teams have expressed interest in the 2014 Offensive Rookie of the Year, including the Buffalo Bills, the Rams and his former team, the New York Giants.
Other suitors include the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs - and the Cowboys are now in the mix, too. Dallas have plenty of offensive weapons at their disposal such as receiver duo Michael Gallup and Ceedee Lamb, but they are also looking to add someone of the superstar-calibre of Beckham.
While Dallas has not had any contract talks with Beckham's agent Zeke Sandhu, the team has received updates regarding his health amid his recovery from the knee injury suffered during Super Bowl LVI. Beckham is in the final stages of his rehab and should be ready to help a team down the stretch as well as potentially in the playoffs.
When asked about the prospect of signing Beckham, Cowboys coach McCarthy said he ‘loves’ the receiver group at his disposal in Dallas - but admitted he was intrigued by the prospect. He said: “I’ve always been a huge fan of his… I’ve just heard so many excellent, excellent things about him.”

Despite insisting they are ‘comfortable’ at receiver, Dallas were locked in trade deadline discussions for the likes of Houston Texans wideout Brandin Cooks and Denver Broncos receiver Jerry Jeudy. After the Cowboys fell short of acquiring a star, Dallas COO Stephen Jones suggested trades ‘aren't the only way you acquire players’.
Beckham is reportedly waiting for a multi-year deal to find a home to end his career after he bounced around a few franchises following his exit from the Giants, playing for the Cleveland Browns and Rams. Beckham said he does not want to ‘live out of a suitcase’ saying he is tired of the ‘rock-and-roll lifestyle’.
“Whether it's Buffalo, Green Bay calling, the Cowboys, or reunion with the Giants,” Beckham said. “I want to be able to spill these last three or four years into these next three or fours into something where I can buy a home, like somewhere I can call home.”
