Dallas Cowboys Begin Search For New Head Coach

The Dallas Cowboys have initiated their search for a new head coach following the departure of Mike McCarthy by conducting a virtual interview with Philadelphia offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. Moore, who previously served as the play-caller for Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott from 2019-2022, is being considered as a potential candidate to lead the team.

During Moore's tenure with the Cowboys, he played a significant role in the team's offensive strategy. His departure in 2023 led to McCarthy taking over the play-calling duties. However, McCarthy and the Cowboys recently parted ways, prompting the search for a new head coach.

Moore's coaching experience extends beyond his time with the Cowboys, as he has also directed the Philadelphia Eagles' offense. Under his guidance, running back Saquon Barkley achieved the milestone of rushing for 2,000 yards, becoming the ninth player in NFL history to do so. The Eagles are scheduled to face the Los Angeles Rams in the upcoming divisional round.

Following the interview with Moore, the Cowboys are set to meet with two former NFL head coaches, Robert Saleh and Leslie Frazier. Saleh, who was relieved of his duties by the New York Jets in 2024, brings a wealth of coaching experience. Frazier, currently serving as the assistant head coach in Seattle, previously led the Minnesota Vikings as head coach for over three years.

Owner and general manager Jerry Jones has also engaged in discussions with Colorado coach Deion Sanders, a former Cowboys player and Pro Football Hall of Famer. Sanders, who played a pivotal role in the Cowboys' last Super Bowl victory in 1995, is being considered for the head coaching position. The Cowboys have not advanced past the divisional round of the playoffs since their Super Bowl win.

Additionally, former Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, a perennial Pro Bowl selection and record-holder for the team, has emerged as a potential coaching candidate. Witten, who retired for the second time after the 2020 season, has been coaching at a private school in the Dallas area.

The search for the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys is underway, with a diverse pool of candidates being considered to lead the team into the future.
